(not quite from Lily - we haven't updated in a while and I wanted to get something posted)

We went to see the new Great Lakes IMAX movie today (November 8th 2008). We took Lindsey, our neighbor. It focused on a group of people who were trying to repopulate sturgeon to the Great Lakes and surrounding rivers. The sturgeon have been on the decline since the late 1800's. The industrialization of the lakes, foreign species, and over-fishing all contributed to their decline. Since the fish can tell what stream they were born in, and can return to that stream year after year, the biologists that were harvesting the eggs were raising them in trailers, using the correct stream water. After they grew to a certain size, they released them to swim back to the lakes. There was some really pretty aerial footage of some of the remote areas in Upper Michigan and Wisconson.

After the movie we went to get some lunch, and then got each of the kids some socks at Target.
